Dr Torres Vitolas holds a PhD in Sociology from the London School of Economics and Political Science. His expertise lies at the interface between human geography and global health. He has conducted research on the socio-cultural determinants affecting the uptake of treatment for schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminths in sub-Saharan Africa. At the SCI Foundation, he leads the development of community-based sensitisation and behavioural-change strategies for schistosomiasis control and supports ‘Leave No One Behind’ initiatives targetting refugee populations and women of fertile age (female genitale schistosomiasis). Fieldwork experience includes Niger, Malawi, Tanzania, Madagascar, and Cote d’Ivoire, Peru and Colombia.
